Use Hosts File for Personal DNS Management

If you don’t have the ability to update DNS entries on you network but still need to associate or (dis-associate) a name to (from) an IP number you can use your HOSTS file located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. The # is used to comment localhost MyDevSharePointServer.MyDomain.Com MyTestServer

Use shortcuts to go to your favorite websites: f # Fark g # Google

You can also block unwanted domain names from resolving by pointing them back to your local IP – IHateThisWebSite.Com # Never take me there again NastyWebSite.Com # Ewww!
